A baby tooth gets chipped or broken

If you can locate the tooth fragment, it is helpful to bring it to the office. Please contact our office to determine the urgency of treatment as some chipped teeth require no treatment while other times the tooth may require smoothing rough edges or bonding to repair larger fractures.

An adult tooth is chipped or broken

Treatment for chipped adult teeth, just like chipped baby teeth, is contingent upon the extent of the fracture. Please call us to determine whether treatment is urgent.

A baby tooth is knocked out

If a baby tooth is knocked out, please never try to reinsert it back into your child’s mouth. If a baby tooth gets knocked out, the goal is to control bleeding by applying firm pressure to the area and rule out any major head trauma or injury to any facial structures. Please call our office immediately so we can evaluate the situation.

An adult tooth is knocked out

Timing is VERY important when an adult tooth is knocked out! It is important to be careful yet quick when responding to this situation. Hold the tooth by the crown and not the root. Gently rinse with water and insert the tooth back with your finger and have the patient bite on a towel or gauze. If you cannot reinsert the tooth, place it in milk. Call us immediately so we can assist in re-implanting the tooth as the faster the tooth is replaced, the better the chance for saving the tooth.
